RE: Ethics Board Docket No. 2008-658

Dear Mr. Riser:

The Louisiana Board of Ethics, at its October 27, 2008 meeting, considered your advisory opinion request regarding your employment with the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office as a party time patrolman while you serve as a law enforcement liaison to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. You indicated that Sheriff Charles McDonald of Richland Parish has recently been appointed to the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.

As the Board has only the authority and power to enforce the provisions of the Code of Governmental Ethics, and as the matters about which you have requested do not present any issues under the Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics. The Board had declined to render an advisory opinion in this matter. Additionally, the Board instructed the staff to forward your request to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office as the issues presented appear to fall under the dual office holding laws administered by the Louisiana Attorney General.

The Board issues no opinion as to laws other than the Code of Governmental Ethics. If you have any questions, please contact me at (800) 842-6630 or (225) 763-8777.

Sincerely,

LOUISIANA BOARD OF ETHICS

Michael Dupree
