RE: Ethics Board Docket No. 98-235

Dear Representative Lancaster:

The Board of Ethics, at its April 16, 1998 meeting, considered the fundraiser notice sent in on behalf of the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation for its annual Elephant Stomp and in which you stated that the fundraiser notice requirement may not be applicable to political action committees, activities of the Republican Delegation, or other similarly situated.

The Board concluded and instructed me to inform you that LSA-R.S. 24:56A requires the filing of a fundraiser disclosure notice if the fundraiser is held during the legislative session and is held by or for legislator(s). Therefore, with respect to the disclosure notice filed by the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation, if the event is held by or for legislator(s), then the notice must contain the names of the legislator(s) in order to be complete.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
