RE: Ethics Board Docket No. 97-007

Dear Ms. Williamson:

The Louisiana Board of Ethics, during the course of its February 13-14, 1997 meeting, considered your request for an advisory opinion regarding the propriety of a lobbying firm registering with the Board as a lobbyist as opposed to each lobbyist working for that firm registering.

The Board concluded, and instructed me to inform you, that no provision of the Lobbyist Disclosure Act would prohibit the firm from registering; however, each employee who is lobbying and who makes expenditures of $200 or more in a calendar year would also have to register as a lobbyist. Therefore, the registration of the firm would appear to serve little purpose.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Very truly yours,

Patricia H. Douglas
