RE: Ethics Board Docket No. 97-187 and 96-171
Dear Ms. Verrett:
The Louisiana Board of Ethics, at its March 20-21, 1997 meeting, considered your request to waive the statutory late fees imposed on you for the late filing of your Lobbying Expenditure Report due February 15, 1997. Because your report was filed more than ten days after the due date, the Board also considered the imposition of additional civil penalties.
The Board waived the late fees of $900.00 automatically assessed against you as you provided "good cause" for your late filing as that term is defined in the Lobbyist Disclosure Act. Additionally, no other civil penalties will be assessed against you for the late filing of your report.
Finally, the charges previously issued by the Board regarding the late filing of your Lobbying Expenditure Report due August 15, 1996, were recalled and vacated. No enforcement action will be pursued for the late filing of either the August 15, 1996 or the February 15, 1997 reports.
The Board cautions you that you remained a registered lobbyist until January 31, 1997 pursuant to the statute. Accordingly, you will be required to file an additional Lobbying Expenditure Report due August 15, 1997 even if you conduct no lobbying activities. The forms for that report are in the process of being promulgated; as soon as that process is complete, you will be forwarded the form for that report.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
